Subject: [KCUTS] 100 Mile Market/Bazaar and Potluck at Vallican Whole
From: "Moe" <meadow@netidea.com>
Abundance in August at Vallican
On Saturday August 23 the Vallican Whole Community Centre is hosting a
celebration of all of us and of local abundance. At 10am, the 100 Mile
Market/Bazaar opens featuring: locally produced preserves; fruits, flowers
and veggies from your neighbours' farms and gardens; a medley of music; a
variety of fine crafts and creations; and a chance to make beautiful art
in the company of others.
This is an opportunity to find out what we have all been up to over the
summer, to share each other's company and to benefit from one another's
productivity. The lively day will turn into a scrumptious evening, as you
and your family and friends return for the 100-Mile Potluck. (Craig the
Rec Guy's take on this phenomenon is: "What grows around, comes
around....") The food you have gathered and prepared will be set out
between 5 and 6pm, after which everyone will feast and visit -- and
remember why we live here.
In keeping with the local theme, Nelson Brewery products will be available
throughout the dinner. The organizers are also trying to obtain wine from
Columbia Gardens, outside Trail.
Throughout the day people will be getting together to fashion beautiful,
imaginative artworks to festoon the hall and celebrate their creative
spirit. Monica Carpendale and the Art Therapy folks will be working and
playing together with anyone who want to join them, with paint, fabric,
paper, and endless amounts of joy!
Music will be woven throughout the day and evening, thanks to Olin McKay
and Bo Conlan and other friends who have agreed to ply us with sounds to
entertain and move us all. A few surprises may well be in the works, as
plotting is afoot to encourage "spontaneous" gathering and re-gathering of
musical folks from both near and far. If you want to join in, feel free to
bring your instruments and voice. We don't really know what will happen:
this is one of those organic events so whatever it is, it will be fun!
The 100 Mile Market and Potluck is a community event, generated out of all
of us and reflecting our love of our home. If you have an excess of
anything you have grown or produced, come and sell it or trade it or share
it with your neighbours. If people make money, the organizers would
appreciate a small vending fee. The main purpose, however, is for all of
us to see and celebrate just how rich we are in the things that really
matter.
Admission is free. Donations are, of course, more than welcome. To book a
table at the market, call 250-226-7730 or e-mail meadow@netidea.com. You
can also use this contact info if you have a great idea that would
contribute to the event.

Food is the rare moral arena in which the choice that's best for the world
and best for your community is also the best on your table.
